FAQ

Sunburst Chart Maker questions

How do I structure hierarchical data?
One column per level, ordered from the outermost grouping to the innermost, then a numeric value in the last column. Parent totals are summed from their children automatically.
How many levels can I use?
As many as you have columns, though rings past the third become thin. Two or three levels read best.
Sunburst or treemap?
A sunburst makes the hierarchy itself very legible. A treemap uses space more efficiently and is easier to compare by area. Both accept the same data here.
